    Situation

Our ultimate goal is to address and counter each contributory factor of period poverty. Period poverty is a worldwide issue and affects millions of women and girls who struggle to afford or access safe menstrual protection. The economic, social and environmental impacts of period poverty are huge, with many of those affected restricted from equal education and job opportunities simply due to their periods. Freedom4Girls strive for menstrual equity amongst all women, girls and menstruators.

    Solution

Plan International has defined period poverty as having three levels to it: the cost of menstrual products; a lack of education around periods and general menstrual health; shame, stigma and taboo associated with menstruation. This 'toxic trio' of period poverty informs Freedom4Girls' philosophy, mission, approach and our everyday practice. Through a combination of product provision, education and campaigning Freedom4Girls aims to support those experiencing period poverty.
